A shared urban experience.
As with much of my work featuring people in urban environments, it’s the similarities which draw my eye and the commonality of experience that inspire me to record these disparate but contemporaneous lives.
From the shaven-headed Buddhist monk in purple robes eating in Kori’s Premiere Fasfood & Cafe, warmly illuminated at night beside the Boudhanath Stupa in Kathmandu, to the families of holiday makers eating fish and chips on wooden benches in the sunshine on the Dorset coast seaside, sometimes we all just need food, fast.
Apart from the obvious shared need to eat, this project explores the development of a global design language that will be familiar to everyone who uses these establishments.
The ubiquity of neon signage, brightly coloured menus above counters and product images could be seen as increasing the homogeneity of the urban experience or making us realise that are lives are more similar than different, wherever we live.
